Kaaviya Thalaivan(Hero of a Epic), the new Tamil movie was indeed a true treat to watch on my wedding anniversary. When a friend asked if I would write about this movie, I told, “I will, if I could remember the movie until I reach home”. I actually thought that I should write about any movie only if I could remember and feel the story and the first and last scene of the movie and the impact it had on me. So without saying it is understood that this movie did have an impact on me and, yes, I could still remember those 2 scenes.
It was more of a rekindled memory that it had in me and I felt like its truly a tribute to Leslie Cheung and the crew members of the movie ‘Farewell my Concubine’ from a Tamil director. Kaaviya Thalaivan is truly a good movie to watch even though I’m not sure if the director made it after being inspired by ‘Farewell my Concubine’ or he just made it without knowing anything about the original movie (which I cannot accept after watching the first scene). All the people would try to correlate this movie with the real life characters from the South Indian ‘stage play’ period but still this reminded me scene by scene, frame by frame, the movie made in 1993 named ‘Farewell my Concubine’.
What is wrong in making a movie with a story that was already made? is a very good question to ask, as we know that at one time in life we all cross paths and also it is very easy to be inspired by a good movie. The sad part here is, if the makers really know that they were inspired by a movie then it is fair to give the credits to those movies or stories especially when you start the first few scenes similar to the original movie.
If you are not a Tamilian but has watched ‘Farewell my Concubine’ then I would strongly recommend you to watch ‘Kaaviya Thalaivan’ as well, as it shows the story of 2 characters in the legendary ‘Stage Play’ art. Prithviraj, you have again donned the screen with your presence.
I was playing with Siri today with a main dialogue and a main keyword from the movie 2001 A Space Odyssey…
WOW is Wear Orange Wednesday. I made some Orange earrings for me and my colleagues at work. The bracelet was just a practice piece but it came out well. Very limited supplies, techniques & tools used.
The earrings that I have been making with 6 and 8 mm beads gave me some confidence to try something new this time. The lust for learning was growing more but the supplies would be shipped only by next week from India so I decided to spend a few dollars in the local shop to buy some seed beads and beading wire and a plier and started making a earring but I think I chose a wrong beading wire which deformed the shape of my beaded hoop. The seed beads that I chose were of size 12 (I realized they are not of uniform size while beading the hoop) and the beading wire was a metallic wire so when I finished the hoop it didn’t look as I expected. I feel I should have done this hoop with a plastic stretchable wire or a waxed wire.
This is how it looked when I finished the earring hoop.
I really couldn’t believe that they remade Nodame Cantabile in Korea.
Nodame Cantabile is one of my most favourite Manga series, Anime and live action drama. Live-action Chiaki (Tamaki Hiroshi) and Nodame (Ueno Juri) have been a great pair in my eyes and many of their fans would agree. Why did they remake such a famous drama with Joo Won and Sim Eun Kyeong. Eun Kyeong has tried a lot to act like Nodame (still I can’t compare her with Ueno Juri) but Joo Won, who is a actor for more serious genre, is definitely a wrong choice in the place of Tamaki Hiroshi in this drama.
Also, the first episode failed to impress me due to the missing funny elements like, the funny Mongoose that comes in the title song, wrong choice of the actor for Mine-the concert master of S Orchestra, last but the most important, where is the music? Isn’t ‘Cantabile’ a word that represents the music that accompany the male, female lead and us throughout the drama. Mozart’s piano sonata for 2 pianos played in this drama failed to impress me in the first episode.
Would I stop watching this drama? No.
I love the manga storyline so much that I have read the Manga more than 5 times, watched the anime many times, watched the live-action ‘n’ number of times so I would probably continue to watch this drama as well even though it is a remake.
